I loved the variety of groups

I loved the variety of groups. Some are more talking like CBT, Relationships, Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness and others involve creative outlets like art therapy-I had long forgotten that I was creative and making decisions about how to express what I was experiencing through art, gave me a better understanding of myself and made me feel calm. I also liked seeing other group members artwork - helped inspire me to take risks with sharing my feelings differently."I loved the variety of groups. I hated myself, now I don’t.

I hated myself, now I don't. I see that I was hurting and isolated, being in group helped me feel alive and part of the world again. I can't thank Jefferson Oaks enough

 

I was very afraid of group therapy

I was very afraid of group therapy, but I soon learned the people here were just like me. No one judged me, I felt supported and learned how to truly take care of myself and my family.

I learned all sorts of terms but the big one was, cognitive distortions. I used to believe what I told myself (mostly negative) was true. Now I have learned to challenge my thoughts and look at the real facts.

 

I had never heard of self-compassion until I came to Jefferson Oaks. I now know how to be nice to myself.
